Rugged, Utility, Touring, Travel, Adventure...

Don't be fooled by imitations. Since 1996 when we built Willie Weir's first UTB™, we've seen several companies try to copy this bike. The Rodriguez UTB™ is ready to conquer any terrain your heart desires. It is rugged, well-designed and with the Travel Option can pack easily into a 26" X 26" suitcase for airline travel. Proprietary parts? Who wants them on a bicycle you might want serviced in a third world country? The Rodriguez UTB™ is ISO compliant all way through! So, more riding and less waiting for special parts! You'll be thanking yourself for choosing the Rodriguez UTB™ when you travel to places like India. Just ask Willie Wier.

Fat Tires
The Rodriguez UTB™ can run wide tires. Up to 2" wide tires with fenders.

Still not convinced? Boy, you're a hard sell. I'll have to let you read what some of our UTB™ customers have to say as they describe some of the amazing adventures that they've had with their Rodriguez UTB's. That's a lot more fun than reading my junk anyway.

Take it with you
This bike used to come standard equipped with our travel option. Over the years, lots of our customers have requested a UTB™ without couplings. They wanted the ruggedness, and the ability to install really fat tires, or mountain bike tires for off-road, but didn't need the travel option that the UTB™ came standard with. For the person who really wants a commuting/touring bike that isn't afraid of any terrain, the UTB™ is the best choice. If you do add S&S couplers, the UTB™ becomes the most convenient full sized model avalable today with the ability to pack into a 26" x 26" suitcase. For these reasons, the UTB™ is still our number one choice of the 'go everywhere' bicycle traveller.

Sizes: All of our bikes are offered in 20 production sizes . If you don't fit one of our production sizes, a custom size frame in any model is just $200 extra.

For the Frame

How is the UTB™ different than the Rodriguez Adventure classic Touring bike?
Rohloff SpeedHub
Available in
Rohloff version

When we design a UTB™, we design it with the idea that the rider will probably carry more weight on the bicycle. So, a heavier gage down tube and chain stays are generally selected. We also build the UTB™ with a fork that we designed for our tandem bikes. This means when you've got 70 pounds or more of gear on your bike, it still rides smooth and stable.

Another difference is wheel clearance. For the UTB™, we build in more clearance for even wider tires than on the Adventure. This adds a bit of labor during the frame build, but for off road touring, you may need this extra room.

UTB Extreme Journey Design:
Choose the UTB™ Journey model for super frame strength. This model, introduced in 2014, is actually built using several of our Rodriguez tandem tubes for those traveling with extreme amounts of weight on the bike.
