New for 2016!

Thin Skin - Hard coat finishes that are almost as durable as the steel they're applied to!

Thin Skin - A hard coat finish from Rodriguez Bicycle Company

For 2016, Rodriguez is happy to announce a limited number of almost indestructible hard coatings that we call Rodriguez Thin Skin. They can be applied to your new Rodriguez bicycle instead of paint. These finishes provide amazing durability, as well as an extremely light-weight finish. For decades some cyclists have wanted a finish that is durable but still provides the corrosion protection of primer. Now, only at Rodriguez, this cyclist has an answer.

Who is this finish for?
First, let me say that our new Thin Skin finishes don't give the same shine or depth as paint. So, if you really like a pretty finish, stick with paint.

  1. The cyclist who is hard on paint:
For the extreme touring cyclist, commuter, or other cyclist who's not looking for a shiny finish, and gets frustrated with paint that 'dings' easily, our Thin Skin finish will be a miracle product. I can say that even a hit that will dent the frame will not chip this finish. The only way I've been able to get scratch the finish is to take a file to it.
  2. The Frequent Flyer cyclist:
If you pack your bike for travel frequently, you know that the paint gets chipped up quite often during that process. Of course, if you take the time to pad all of the tubing to protect the paint, it minimizes the problem. However, if you don't want to spend as much time protecting your paint on your travel bike, our new Rodriguez Thin Skin Hard coating is a great option for you new bike.
  3. The Super-light bike lover:
For that rider that wants the super-duper light frame (like our Outlaw), and is fine with kind of a flat, satin finish without too much 'KAPOW' to it, Thin Skin finish will save 1 ~ 3 ounces on the total frame weight. Believe it or not, an average paint job weighs in at 1/4 pound (113 grams). Even our super light paint job technique that we use on the Rodriguez Outlaw weighs in at 60 grams. A Thin Skin Hard coat on the same frame will add just 21 grams. The added benefit of the 'no-chip' characteristic is an added plus here as well.
